EUROPE – Joanne Segars, chief executive at the UK National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF), is to become the next chair of the European Federation for Retirement Provision (EFRP), succeeding Patrick Burke, a source close to the association confirmed to IPE.

The source in Brussels said Segars' nomination would be put forward at the EFRP's general assembly meeting in Dublin next Monday, with the board of directors expected to elect her as their new chair.

The source added that Segars, who is already a member of the board, was the sole runner to take over Burke's responsibilities.

Burke was elected chairman of the EFRP in 2010.

The source went on to say that Segars would be responsible for chairing meetings and guiding discussions on the IORP Directive, White Paper proposals and financial market regulation, among other things.

The new chairwoman will take on her new responsibilities immediately after the vote takes place next Monday, the person in Brussels said.

Segars will remain CEO of the NAPF.

Segars took over from Christine Farnish as chief executive of the NAPF in October 2006 after she joined the organisation in April 2005 from the Association of British Insurers (ABI).

At the ABI, Segars was head of pensions and savings.

Before then, she was senior pensions officer at the Trades Union Congress and a board member at the Occupational Pensions Regulatory Authority from 1996 to 2001.
