Joseph, saying Bitcoin = cryptocurrencies as this article does (it doesn't mention any others) is like saying Elvis Presley = rock 'n' roll. It is absurd. Being the first and best known does not equate to being the be all and end all.
Believing cryptocurrencies want to replace fiat currencies is equally ignorant. Most crypto assets (a far more relevant word) do not aspire to be a means of exchange in the broad economy at all. Coins, tokens etc., are an asset that channels finance to a new form of organisation, a decentralised application. They are akin to equities backing a PLC or sovereign bonds a government.
