NETHERLANDS - BlackRock has appointed Ton Leukel as managing director and head client servicing within the company's fiduciary mandate investment team in the Netherlands.
In his new position, Leukel will also be a member of BlackRock's London-based multi-asset client solutions group.
Leukel, 50, left Algemene Pensioen Groep (APG) - the asset manager of the €210bn civil service scheme ABP - after a 23-year career that started at ABP.
Initially working as an equity analyst, Leukel was involved in ABP's first equity investments abroad and went on to become head of treasury trading and senior portfolio manager for fixed income.
In 1998, he helped ABP in setting up its New York office, where he subsequently worked for two years.
Leukel's next career move saw him become managing director of ABP's Financial Services - later re-named as APG Investment Services - offering fiduciary asset management services to pension funds, insurers and local and provincial governments.
Before joining ABP in 1987, Leukel worked as a commercial employee at banc-assurer SNS Bank.
BlackRock currently has €17bn in assets under management in its Netherlands fiduciary management business.
