GLOBAL - AXA Investment Managers has Olympia Capital Management's Véronique Courlier as global head of hedge fund activities.

It said she would run its hedge fund platform, including single strategy funds and funds of funds. She'll be based in London.

"With over 15 years of experience in alternative investment management, she is well placed to drive AXA IM's hedge funds business forward with the aim of making our hedge funds platform a recognised leader in the industry," said AXA IM chief executive Nicolas Moreau.

"By developing this type of sophisticated expertise, AXA Investment Managers seeks to strengthen its position as a multi-specialist player."

Courlier was previously senior vice president and head of alternative investments at Olympia. The Olympia group runs almost $4bn in assets, according to its website.

Hedge Fund Research said yesterday that global hedge fund assets have risen to $1trn.
