NORWAY - Balsfjord kommune, in the north of Norway, is the latest municipality to re-tender its public occupational pension provision.

The kommune, which includes the fjords Balsfjord and Malangan, is offering a NOK 50m (€5.75m) contract to provide its public occupational pension in accordance with the main tariff agreement in the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities' area.

Details in the tender notice showed the contract is expected to last for an initial period of 12 months, but has the option of two further one-year extensions, and the starting date is scheduled for 1 January 2010.

Balsfjord is the latest in a number of municipalities tendering contracts, following similar tender notices from Gjerstad and Båtsfjord in July and Risør kommune, Vadsø kommune and Eigersund kommune in June. (See earlier IPE articles: Gjerstad and Båtsfjord retender pensions)

A previous series of re-tendering among Norwegian municipalities in 2008, starting with Ski, Skedsmo and Kongsvinger meanwhile appeared to have been completed in June 2009 with the appointment of Storebrand by Skedsmo kommune. (See earlier IPE article: Skedsmo appoints Storebrand to pension role)

The closing date for submissions for the Balsfjord pension provider is 2 September 2009 and further details can be obtained from Aon Grieg AS.
