UK – Gail Burke - BNP Paribas Securities Services’ business chief for Australia and New Zealand – has been appointed to the new position of chief operating officer for the UK.

Based in London, Burke will be responsible for all UK IT and operations functions. She starts on September 1, once she has relocated from the French bank’s Sydney office.

A BNP spokesperson told IPE that Burke’s team has not been appointed yet “but any additions will be announced in due course”.

According to a BNP statement, “The creation of this role further strengthens the UK management team.”

Burke will report to locally to BNP UK chief Tony Solway, and globally to head of fund services operations Philippe Ricard.

She joined BNP three years ago from Macquarie Bank, where she worked for 20 years and was an executive director. Burke’s other roles at the bank include being chief investment officer for 12 years and COO for three years.

“During Gail’s tenure, BNP Paribas Australasia’s assets more than doubled, mainly thanks to significant new client appointments and product developments,” said BNP Paribas Securities Services chief executive Jacques-Philippe Marson.

“The UK is a strategically important location for our business… Gail’s strong skill-sets will be key assets developing our business in the coming years.”

As of 31 December 2005, BNP Paribas Securities Services held more than €3tn in assets under custody and €520bn of assets under administration.

Elsewhere, Eric Dickinson has been appointed head of sales and product development for investor services for Société Générale Securities Services in the UK.

Dickinson, 53, joins from the Bank of New York, where he was sales manager with responsibility for UK fund administration.
