Futures contracts in fine wines could become the latest derivative to be traded. ParisBourse says a feasibility study will be conducted for the creation of a regulated futures market for categories of fine wines, as the first step of the Wine Futures Exchange project.
The project is based on a finished product that is ready to be consumed – homogeneous categories of sought-after fine wines. The first contract is expected to be a future on the top growths of the Bordeaux region, based on a 12-bottle case en primeur for delivery in 32 months’ time.
In late summer, when the study results are in, ParisBourse says it will analyse the economic, technical and financial interest of setting up an organised market in fine wines. If it finds there is such interest, the first futures contract could be launched before the end of the year.
