NNIP, Delta Lloyd AM, SPF Beheer, ASR, MSCI, Slaughter & May

NNIP – Satish Bapat has been appointed as chief executive of the €199bn asset manager NN Investment Partners as well as a member of the executive board of NN Group. Bapat, a Dutch national, will succeed Stan Beckers, who is to retire on 1 April [corrected] after four years as NNIP’s CEO. Beckers, who has worked in the financial sector for 38 years, is to stay on as special adviser of the executive board to assist with the transition. Bapat has been CEO of NN Life Japan since 2013, and was CEO of Asia Pacific between 2011 and 2013, as well as worldwide CFO of NN Group.

In addition, Hester Borrie has been named as head of client group international at NNIP as of 1 March. She will replace Gerard Roelofs, who has left for Kempen Capital Management. His tasks have temporarily been taken over by Martin Nijkamp. Borrie has been a member of the executive board of asset manager Robeco for seven years. She left in May 2016, when a large part of the board was replaced by Orix, Robeco’s new Japanese owner. Prior to her job at Robeco, Borrie was head of distribution for EMEA at Morgan Stanley Asset Management.

Delta Lloyd Asset Management – Arnold Gast is to leave as manager of the investment office at Delta Lloyd Asset Management on 1 June. According to the company, Gast, a bond specialist, is to depart in part due to changes within the organisation. Delta Lloyd has accepted a take-over bid from NN Group. His job will be temporary filled by Jacco Maters, CEO and CIO at the company.

SPF Beheer – The €19bn asset manager and pensions provider SPF Beheer has named Seada van den Herik as member of its supervisory board (RvC) as of 1 February. She succeeds Wim Jol, who is to resign on 1 March. Van den Herik was CEO at pensions insurer Zwitserleven between 2014 and 2016, and has also worked at Reaal, Regiobank, and Deloitte. She has also been a trustee at the pension fund of SNS Reaal and is currently a member of the RvC at property investor Vesteda.

ASR – Insurer ASR has appointed Ernö Kalmár as senior specialist for pension funds, focusing on Het Nederlandse Pensioenfonds, the general pension fund (APF) founded by ASR. Kalmár, 53, joins from pensions consultancy Westerbrink, where he has been partner. Prior to this, he worked at insurer Nationale-Nederlanden and Cordares, the provider for the €54bn sector scheme for the building industry which has merged with APG.

MSCI – Will Robson has joined MSCI as global head of real estate applied research. Robson joins from Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), where he was a senior research analyst in the sovereign wealth fund’s global real estate research group. Before joining ADIA, he worked as a research economist for M&G Real Estate. MSCI said he will be responsible for providing insight into the challenges of institutional investors worldwide whose portfolios include private and publicly traded real estate.

Slaughter & May – The law firm has hired leading pensions lawyer Dan Schaffer to its pensions and employment group. He joins from Herbert Smith Freehills where he was head of pensions. He has been involved in a number of significant developments in the UK pensions sector, including advising textiles manufacturer Coats on its recent settlement with the Pensions Regulator. Schaffer is a former chairman of the Association of Pension Lawyers’ international committee.
