Pensionskasse Basel-Stadt - The scheme's board has elected Susanne Jeger as chief executive of the CHF10bn (€8.8bn) fund for employees of the canton of Basel. Assuming her new role in March next year, she will replace Dieter Stohler - who will become head of the country's largest public fund, the CHF33.3bn Publica at the end of the year. Jeger, who has previously worked at Nationale Suisse and PAX Versicherungen, currently heads the group life insurance portfolio at Swiss Life.

Valida Pension - Hartwig Sorger has been named as a new board member at the Austrian Pensionskasse run by the Valida group, replacing Rudolf Böhm who will be retiring at the end of the year. Sorger, who will also remain on the board of the Valida subsidiary BAV Pensionskasse, will jointly head the Valida Pension with Georg-Viktor Dax. The €3.7bn Valida Pension, formerly known as ÖPAG, is part of the Valida Group headed by Andreas Zakostelsky.

Barclays UK Retirement Fund - Mark Hyde Harrison, chief executive at the £19bn (€22bn) Barclays UK Retirement Fund, has left the scheme, with no reason given for his departure. Hyde Harrison, recently appointed chairman of the National Association of Pension Funds, became chief executive at the pension fund in 2006 after he served as its chief investment officer. He joined Barclays in 1988, having worked in the US and Canada and served as UK sales director at Barclays Life, pension and investment products.

Legg Mason Global Asset Management - The firm has appointed Dan Franklin as director of business development for the UK. Reporting to Adam Gent, head of UK sales, Franklin will work with the UK team servicing discretionary clients across London. He joins Legg Mason from Legal and General Investment Management where he was senior investment sales manager, responsible for selling the firm's fund range into the discretionary wealth manager and IFA channels.

Aon Hewitt - The consultancy firm has appointed Simon Davies to lead its UK defined contribution (DC) consulting team. Davies joins from Standard Life where he was head of corporate client relationships.  During his career, he has been involved in a number of change communications projects as companies have moved away from defined benefit (DB) provision.

The Futures and Options Association (FOA) - Blake Stephenson will join the FOA as manager of regulation on 28 November. He joins from the UK's Financial Services Authority (FSA) where he was part of the exchange supervision team. Meanwhile, Simon Andrews has been promoted to the new role of director of commodities at the FOA. Andrews has been with the FOA for six years and has additional oversight of prudential regulation and taxation issues. Both Stephenson and Andrews will report to Kathleen Traynor, executive director of regulation.
