GLOBAL – Lothian Pension Fund, Northern Trust, Royal London, Legg Mason Asset Management
Lothian Pension Fund – Sarah Smart has been appointed as an independent professional observer to strengthen governance following guidance issued recently by the Scottish government. Smart is currently chair of the Pensions Trust and a member of the board of the London Pension Fund Authority. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1998 and went on to hold a senior post at Standard Life Investments. She founded her own consultancy firm in 2008.
Northern Trust – Liam Butler has been appointed head of hedge fund services. Butler joined Northern Trust in 2011 and was most recently managing director of Securities Services Ireland. Northern Trust Hedge Fund Services was established in 2011, following the acquisition of Omnium from Citadel.
Royal London – Tracey Graham has been appointed to the board as a non-executive director. She is currently a non-executive director at RPS Group, Dialight and Albemarle and Bond Holdings, and previously served as chief executive at Talaris. Before joining Talaris, she was managing director at De La Rue Cash Systems, president at Sequoia Voting Systems and director of customer services for AXA Insurance.
Legg Mason Asset Management – Legg Mason AM's emerging market unit Esemplia has appointed Steve Triantafilidis as a principal and head of investments. He joins from Vontobel Asset Management, where he was a managing director and head of global equities. Michael Bourke has been appointed portfolio manager for long-only strategies, joining from emerging market boutique FPP Asset Management.
