Tim Gardener has been promoted to global practice leader for investment consulting at William M Mercer. Andrew Kirton will take over from Gardener as UK investment consulting practice leader, whilst becoming a member of the UK board at Mercer.
“ As the largest player in the market, Mercer’s strategy is to devote more resources to meet the growing demand for international consulting. Consequently, I will be devoting more of my time to pan-European and broader, global activities,” says Gardener.
Dietmar Roessler has been appointed as business manager for BNP Paribas Securities Services’ European investor services business, based in Frankfurt.
He will be responsible for securities services’ sales, relationship management, product development and operations with institutional investors in Germany and Switzerland.
Roessler joins from Citibank in Zurich.
Lars Lundquist has become the new chief executive officer of Germany’s BfG bank. Lundquist has been deputy CEO since the Swedish financial group SEB acquired BfG in January 2000. Karl-Heinz Hülsmann retires from the position to join the bank’s board of directors.
Scottish Widows Investment Partnership has finalised its Japanese investment team, consisting of five fund managers and three support personnel. Sarah Williams and Jim Livingston will manage the team’s life and pension products. Anne-Marie Main will be the head of the desk.
Ronnie Vaknin has joined State Street Global Advisors in London as a senior investment manager to its passive equity team. Vaknin, previously a UK index portfolio manager at Barclays Global Investors, will manage global equity index portfolios.
Bryan Portman has been appointed as director of life and pensions operations at Adepta (formerly Century Financial Services). He will be responsible for the delivery of Adepta’s administrative services to its customers. Previously, Portman headed Old Mutual’s UK life and pension operations.
Friends Ivory & Sime (FIS) has appointed Brian Corris as director and head of client services, heading the team responsible for UK institutional clients. Corris joins FIS from SSB Citi Asset Management where he was vice president responsible for institutional client servicing for global emerging markets.
Chiswell Associates has made three internal promotions to appoint new directors. Kevin Bennett has been promoted to head of overseas equities, Richard Maitland has been appointed UK equities manager and Robert Ward will be the investment manager’s new charities marketing manager.
Tareq Al-Mudhaf joins Chase Manhattan as a vice president in London to run a team with Nicholas Hofgren within the private fund group for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Al-Mudhaf will be responsible or managing the group’s relationships with investors in the Middle East.
