UK - HSBC Securities Services EMEA (HSS) has hired Northern Trust's Matthew Adams in a move to enhance its London based pension team.
Adams, who has worked in the UK pensions team of Northern Trust for the past four years, has just taken up his new position of relationship manager pensions.
Pat Sharman, head of HSS's relationship management team for pension funds, said that the financial services group wants to significantly grow its pension business over the coming months, but it would not disclose more about these plans.
She added that Adams will be a great asset to the expanding team: "Matthew brings a wealth of knowledge into the team along with an exceptional client centric attitude."
Elsewhere, Mercer Global Investments announced it has hired Amit Popat as head of European Business Development and Rob Marsden as head of Fixed Income Portfolio Management.
In his newly created role Popat will be responsible "for institutional business development and third-party distribution arrangements in Europe," Mercer said in a statement.
Popat joins from Santander Central Hispano where he was a senior vice president. Marsden was transferred from Mercer Investment Consulting, where he was head of Fixed Income Research.
"Since our European launch last year, we have been expanding our team to strengthen our position in the multi-manager market," Tom Murphy, head of MGI in Europe, commented on the appointments.
"Amit's appointment will enable us to execute our strategic plans for measured expansion into continental Europe while Rob's deep knowledge of fixed income and derivatives markets will allow us to develop more sophisticated products for a client base that is increasingly focused on risk reduction", he added.
