GLOBAL - USS, Alfred Berg, Towers Watson, Icelandic Investment Fund, West LB Mellon AM, Russell Investments, Aegon AM, SWIP, Penfida, American Century Investments, Hermes Fund Managers.

USS - Carmel Peters, Danila Gallarato and Chris Shale have joined the pension fund’s investment team as part of its global emerging markets equities capabilities. Peters will lead a combined GEMS/Asia unit, incorporating USS’s existing four-person Asia Pacific ex-Japan team. Peters and Shale joined from RWC Partners while Gallarto was previously at the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.

Alfred Berg - The specialist Nordic asset manager owned by Fortis Investments as signed a new CIO and portfolio manager to its quantitative strategies team. Dr. Larry Pohlman joins as CIO, having previously been director of quantitative research at Wellington Management, while Amitabh Dugar is portfolio manager for US and international equity portfolios. He previously worked at Mellon Capital Management.  Both individuals will be based in Boston, USA.

Towers Watson - David Holding and Gregory Jackson have joined as investment consultants. Holding joins the London DC investment team from BNY Mellon Asset Management, where he was an account manager in the institutional pooled pension fund team. Jackson will work in the Reigate client consulting team, having previously been a pension manager for the Marsh & McLennan Companies UK defined benefit scheme. Geraint Davies, Simon Cowen, Ryan Turner and Tamaryn Driver have also joined as investment analysts in the UK team.

Icelandic Investment Fund - Finnbogi Jónsson has been hired as managing director. The IIF was recently founded by a number of Icelandic Pension Funds who put around ISK 30 billion worth of capital into the new fund. In his earlier years he worked in the Ministry of Industry, Energy, and Tourism but most recently managing director of the New Business Venture Fund and was on the board of several companies.

WestLB Mellon Asset Management KAG -Volker Kurr has become the new chief executive of the business owned by WestLB and BNY Mellon. He succeeds Kevin Birch following his retirement in 2009, and was previously head of institutional and wholesale business development at UBS Global Asset Management.

Russell Investments - James Polisson andAndrew Arenberg joined the firm in mid-January as managing director of the global ETF business and as managing director of global ETF distribution respecitvely. They previously worked at iShares, with Polisson as chief marketing officer and Arenberg as MD of its eBusiness operation. They will continue to be based in San Francisco.

Aegon Asset Management - Pauline McPherson has joined as a senior investment manager. She was previously at Standard Life Investments as investment director for European equities and will now report to Stuart Fraser, head of European equities.

SWIP - Giulio Ponte has joined the fixed income team as senior high-yield analyst. Reporting to Steven Logan, head of high-yield bonds, he previously worked at Aladdin Capital Management in the US.

Penfida - Three new appointments have been made to the team. They are Julian Goodwin, a former director of Lazard and a managing director of ABN AmroLee Yeomans, a senior vice president from Gleacher Shacklock and Daniel Lappage, a senior associate from Jeffries Puttnam Lovell.

American Century Investments - Elizabeth Trinh is now vice president in its Hong Kong office. She joined from Macquarie Bank where she was an associate manager for the business development of its fund of funds range. She will report to Tony Archer, business head for Asia Pacific.

Hermes Fund Managers - John Feely has left his role as director of US consultant relations at Fortis to become head of US consultant relations at Hermes.
