Groupe Consultatif Actuariel Européen (GC) - The European association of actuaries, has elected new board members, making Gabor Hanak (Hungary) its chairman and Karel Goossens (Belgium), who also heads the group’s insurance committee, his vice-chairman for one year. According to the statutes of the Groupe Consultatif, which officially became an association under Swiss law last year, its former chairman Chris Daykin (UK) stays on as chairman for another year. The group also elected new committee chairmen for a period of three years, with Falco Valkenburg (Netherlands) switching from heading the investment and financial risk committee to heading the pensions committee. Valkenburg is succeeded by Christoph Krischanitz (Austria).
UK Pensions Regulator - Peter Ullmann has been appointed head of risk, joining the watchdog from ABN AMRO Bank in Amsterdam, where he was managing director. Chief executive Bill Galvin said Ullmann’s hire completed changes to its senior management team begun in February. Ullmann has held a number of senior financial and management positions in banking and international trade, including managing director of risk and portfolio management at Fortis Bank in the Netherlands and managing director at AIOC Corporation in Moscow.
KNf - Andrzej Jakubiak, until recently deputy mayor of Poland’s capital Warsaw, has been appointed chairman of the country’s financial supervisory authority - also charged with oversight of pension funds - by prime minister Donald Tusk. Prior to becoming mayor, Jakubiak held a number of positions at Poland’s national bank, including sitting on its board of management between 1998 and 2006.
Sacker & Partners - The UK-based pensions law firm has appointed Joanna Smith and Sarah Henderson as solicitors. Smith joins from Hogan Lovells International, where she was a senior associate in the pensions group. Henderson joins from SNR Denton UK, where she was a trainee solicitor for two years. Both will advise on general pensions arrangements at Sackers.
AXA Investment Managers - Madeline Forrester has been appointed UK head of institutional sales. She joins from Threadneedle, where she had direct responsibility for building the UK institutional business. She spent 16 years at the company, which she joined in 1995 as a fixed income portfolio manager.
Royal London Asset Management - Grant Hadland has been appointed head of consultant relationships within the institutional business development team. He was previously consultant relationship director at Fidelity International. Before then, he held sales and marketing and transition management roles at Schroders, having begun his career at Henderson.
Dexia Asset Management - Ric van Weelden has been appointed to the executive committee and will head up the client relations and solutions department, responsible for all commercial activities across all markets and geographies in which Dexia AM operates.
Aberdeen Asset Management - Aidan Upton has been appointed as a senior business development manager focusing on the group’s multi-manager range. Prior to joining Aberdeen, Upton worked at Architas, where he was an investment development manager.
Adrian Lee & Partners - The active currency specialist for institutional investors has appointed Keith Zaccaria as senior portfolio manager, Rakesh Odedra as international economist and portfolio manager and Maria Isaeva as portfolio manager.
