UK/EUROPE – Jan Mantel joins Baring Asset Management (BAM) next week as director and head of its UK and Europe investment team.

Following on from the new appointment Baring says it will create a single, unified research and management structure for its UK and European equity products, with Mantel leading a team of 30 investment professionals.

Mantel, who will be based in London, will report to Michael Hughes, chief investment officer at BAM.

A Dutch national, Mantel spent 11 years at Barclays Investment management (now BGI).
He was also CIO European equities and later managing director and global CIO for the London business at Dresdner RCM.

Most recently, he worked with Merrill Lynch as a consultant on pension reform in Europe and equity strategy.
