UK – Martin Currie has recruited Paul Murray of Deutsche Capital Partners to head up its private equity team.

During his career, Murray has worked at UK investment firm 3i, where he worked closely with Martin Currie’s present chief executive Willie Watt. He joined Deutsche Capital Partners in 2000 as a founding partner.

At Edinburgh-based Martin Currie, Murray will be managing director of the private equity team, joining Hamish Mair and Neil Sneddon. He will be responsible for two funds: the 170 million pound (257 million euro) Martin Currie Capital Return Trust, and the 300 million pound (454 million euro) European mid market fund of funds, launched in November last year.

Martin Currie is expanding its private equity business and plans to grow the team over the next six months. Says the investment firm: “Murray’s appointment is part of strategic move to build a broadly-based private equity business offering its investors fund of funds, direct and secondary investment opportunities.”

Martin Currie Investment Management has around 413 million dollars in European pension fund assets under management.
