UK – The £240m (e384m) pension plan for Chester based construction firm Alfred McAlpine has appointed multi-manager Attica Asset Management to manage £15m in Japan and Far East ex-Japan, portfolios.
Edinburgh based Blackrock also scooped £20m in a pan-European equity mandate as part of the scheme’s investment review.

“Our selection process included both specialist investment and multi-manager investment managers. We chose the multi-manager route as it provided us with diversification both in terms of manager risk and investment styles,” says G. Beaumont, chairman of the trustee of the Alfred McAlpine pension plan.

Tim Gardener at consultant William M. Mercer advised the scheme in the selection process.

Martin Currie in Edinburgh and New York based Zurich Scudder currently run Attica’s Japanese fund.
New York based Clay Finlay with Asian investment manager Lloyd George, located in Hong Kong, manage the Far East, ex-Japan, funds.
