The tussle for the position of group pensions and benefits director of merged food and drinks giant Diageo has been won by Steve Mingle who headed pensions at Grand Metropolitan. Mingle defeated Chris Lewin head of pensions at Guinness, in a close fought contest prompted by the merger of the two groups.

Mingle will now consider whether the two schemes in the UK and in other countries where the businesses are being integrated should merge.
