UK – The National Association of Pension Funds has appointed Geoff Lindey, ex-head of UK institutional investments at JPMorgan Investment Management, as strategic advisor to its corporate governance team.
In the wake of the Higgs report on non-executive directors and the Winter Report at the European Commission level, corporate governance is a hot topic.
Lindey joins the NAPF’s corporate governance team on a part time basis in April. His role will involve promoting conditions in which companies can create and protect long-term shareholder value, by encouraging high standards of corporate governance and effective shareholder protection.
He will concentrate on forming relationships between the NAPF, its members and the major companies in which UK pension funds invest.
Lindey is currently managing director of strategic relationships at JPMorgan Fleming Asset Management. He will retire from this role in March. He was head of UK institutional investments at JPMorgan Investment Management for 11 years up to 2000.
The NAPF is placing increasing importance on corporate governance. Says Christine Farnish, chief executive: “We need to move away from talking about shareholder activism to making it happen in a sensible and informed way.”
The NAPF represents UK occupational pension schemes, and its members account for over 20% of the UK stock market.
