Karin van Baardwijk will succeed Gilbert van Hassel as chief executive officer at the Dutch asset manager Robeco as of 1 January 2022.
Van Baardwijk, who is currently deputy CEO, has been working at Robeco since 2006 and will be the firm’s first ever female CEO.
Van Hassel, who has been in charge since 2015, will stay on until 31 December “in order to ensure a smooth handover”, Robeco said in a press release.
He will then relocate to New York to join his family where he will assume a “senior role” at Orix, the Japanese owner of Robeco.
Commenting on her appointment, Van Baardwijk said she wants to “accelerate growth in all our key strengths”.
Robeco has recently been facing headwinds. Due to disappointing returns from its active and factor strategies, several Dutch pension funds including Loodsen, Rabobank and Akzo Nobel decided to part ways with the asset manager this year.
Robeco also wound up its fiduciary business in the country last year.
