Austria’s occupational provident fund – Betrieblichen Vorsorgekassen (BVK) – achieved a 10% increase in assets under management (AUM) to around €20.63bn, according to the third-quarter report for 2024 published by the Financial Market Authority (FMA).

Provident funds’ AUM grew by €834.16m, or 4.21%, quarter on quarter in Q3, according to the report.

The occupational pension schemes invested 65.5% of total AUM in bonds, and 14.72% in equities.

Austria’s BVK also invested 5.86% of the total AUM in loans, 5.52% in real estate, 4.77% in deposits at credit institutions, and 3.63% in other assets, FMA added in the report.

The structure of the portfolios changed slightly in Q3 2024 compared with the previous year with the schemes increasing allocations to bonds and equities, while cutting exposure to real estate.

The number of pension beneficiaries of provident funds, including those with multiple entitlements, rose by 83,000 to a total of 11.09m in the reporting quarter, FMA said.
