Robert Branagh has announced he stepped down from his role as chief executive officer of the London Pensions Fund Authority (LPFA) after “almost seven rewarding years in LGPS”.

In a statement on LinkedIn, he said: “It has been a privilege to lead such a great organisation and work with such talented and inspiring individuals and I’m immensely proud of what we’ve achieved together.”

Branagh took on the role of CEO of LPFA in April 2020, and was previously a managing director at the authority from 2018 to 2020.

Branagh said that it had been a “fantastic” time to be involved in Local Government Pension Schemes (LGPS) and that LPFA had made a “significant contribution” to both scheme members and employers throughout the country.

“I am pleased to have played a small part in the wider LGPS community too and have collaborated with some fantastic individuals, not just in London, but across England and Wales, Scotland and of course Northern Ireland funds and their pools too,” he said.

“Although we are in the midst of a significant period of change and challenge for pensions, I have decided to take some time out and re-evaluate my work/life balance,” he added.

Branagh said that while he won’t be pursuing full-time opportunities “until well into 2025”, he is keeping a “small number” of non-LGPS non-executive director (NED) and trustee roles. He is still currently listed as NED at The Pensions Ombudsman and Local Pensions Partnership.

LPFA was contacted for comment.
