Janus Henderson, HSBC AM, Robeco, Federated Hermes, Muzinich, Mirabaud, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust, FIR
Janus Henderson Group – Ali Dibadj has been appointed as chief executive officer of Janus Henderson Group effective no later than 27 June 2022. Dibadj succeeds Dick Weil, who, as previously announced, will retire as CEO and a member of the board as of 31 March 2022.
Effective 1 April 2022, the board has appointed Roger Thompson, chief financial officer, to serve as interim CEO until Dibadj joins Janus Henderson. To assist in an orderly transfer of responsibilities, Weil will serve as an adviser to the company through 30 June 2022.
Dibadj joins from AllianceBernstein (AB) where he has served as CFO and head of strategy since February 2021 as well as portfolio manager for AB equities since 2017. Previously, he served as AB’s head of finance and head of strategy from April 2020 to February 2021. He co-led AB’s strategy in 2019 and served as a senior research analyst with Bernstein Research Services from 2006 to 2020.
Dibadj is also expected to join the board after he commences employment with the company.
HSBC Asset Management – The asset manager has appointed Fatima Hadj as climate investment strategist, also publicly announcing the news of Laëtitia Tankwe’s appointment as head of sustainability implementation & assurance, as previously reported.
Hadj’s role is a new one in which she will lead HSBC AM’s climate change strategy, ensuring climate considerations are embedded across its investment platform. She will work with clients to help shape their climate strategies and investment teams to help identify climate-related risks and opportunities in portfolios.
She has held a number of senior roles in the banking and asset management industry, including at Tikehau Capital, Standard & Poor’s, and Moody’s. She has been the chair of the Principles for Responsible Investment’s committee for ESG integration in securitised products since its creation, and is a member of the steering committee of the new collaboration between the PRI and the UN Environment Programme Finance Initiative on bank loans and related products. She is also a lecturer at Bocconi University on ESG integration in finance.
Tankwe’s role is also a new one, in which she will focus on creating and delivering market-leading assurance frameworks for HSBC AM’s sustainability commitments to customers and industry partners. Tankwe was previously the responsible investment adviser to the president of the French public sector pension scheme, Ircantec.
Russell Investments – Gavin Anderson has joined the asset manager as director, private markets. Based in London, he will report to Chris Davies, head of UK distribution.
He joins Russell from Scottish-based family office Chroma Ventures, where he was investment director. Previously, he was an investment manager at one of UK’s most active mid-market private equity firms. He has over 10 years investment industry expertise, with a focus on alternatives and private investments at asset managers, investment banks and ‘Big Four’ accounting firms’ deal advisory groups.
Robeco – Joshua Crabb will become head of Asia-Pacific equities at Robeco, taking over responsibilities from Arnout van Rijn as of 1 July 2022. Van Rijn has decided to relocate back to the Netherlands after 14 years in Hong Kong, and will strengthen Robeco’s sustainable multi-asset team as of 1 September 2022.
Crabb, who moved to Hong Kong in 2001, has worked closely with van Rijn over the past three years after joining Robeco. He will succeed him as fund manager of Robeco Asia Pacific equities and will be joined by Harfun Ven, who has been with Robeco since 2008. In addition Crabb will take over responsibilities as manager of the Asia Pacific equities team.
Van Rijn will join Robeco’s sustainable multi-asset team as portfolio manager. He set up Robeco’s Asia-Pacific team and was responsible for managing Robeco Asia-Pacific Equities, Robeco Asian Stars and Robeco Sustainable Asian Stars Equities. Vicki Chi, who’s been with Robeco since 2006 and joined the Hong Kong team in 2014, will take over Robeco Asian Stars and Robeco Sustainable Asian Stars together with Crabb effective 1 April.
Federated Hermes – The international business of Federated Hermes has appointed Christoph Lausecker as a director in its private debt team. Reporting to the head of direct lending, Laura Vaughan, Lausecker will be based in London and will work across the private debt platform, with a focus on the German-speaking market.
The private debt team manage European and UK direct lending strategies focused on senior-secured loans in the mid-market space. Co-lending partnerships with partner banks in the UK and Europe provide a strong origination pipeline which is utilised in conjunction with the team’s own pan-European reach.
A native German speaker, Lausecker is responsible for developing business for the private debt platform within the DACH region, including deal origination and execution. Before joining Federated Hermes, he spent more than four years at RiverRock European Capital Partners, where he advised on the RiverRock European Opportunities Funds. Prior to this, he was part of the restructuring and special situations group at PJT Partners (formerly Blackstone Advisory Partners).
Miraubaud Asset Management – Chabi Nouri joins Mirabaud Asset Management’s private equity division as private equity partner. She will co-manage the Lifestyle Private equity franchise alongside David Wertheimer, private equity partner and manager of the Miraubaud Lifestyle Impact & Innovation strategy.
Before joining the Mirabaud Group, Nouri was president and CEO of the Piaget watch and jewellery company (Richemont Group).
Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Asset Management (SuMi TRUST) – The Asian asset manager, with $761bn (€688bn) in assets under management, has appointed Hiroki Moritani as managing director of its London office, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust International Limited (SuMiTIL). As of March 2022, Moritani takes over from Yukihiro Murota who will return to the firm’s Tokyo headquarters.
As managing director of SuMiTIL, Moritani will have overall responsibility for SuMi TRUST’s investment management business in the EMEA region, including global business development, new product development, and ESG engagement activities.
Moritani has 26 years of experience in the financial services and asset management industry. Previously he was the general manager for global business development, product management and distribution at SuMi TRUST’s global business development department in Tokyo. As part of his role, he led on client services and business development for global investors, including sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, family offices and investment consultants.
Muzinich & Co. – The firm has hired Yiannis Bartzilas as director of ESG as it continues to strengthen and deepen its commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors.
Bartzilas joins from Pimco, where he was an ESG and climate change specialist. Based in London, he will work closely with the investment teams across the business as well as becoming an integral part of Muzinich’s various internal ESG groups.
“I’m delighted to be joining such an experienced and client-focused credit specialist,” said Bartzilas. “Given the increasing importance on ESG within credit investing, I’m excited about being able to undertake such a key role in helping the firm expand its research capabilities and further integrate ESG into its investment process.”
FIR – Justine Apollin has joined the French sustainable investment forum to support the growth of its shareholder engagement platform. She will work on investor briefs, AGM and thematic campaigns. She previously worked at EcoAct as an energy-climate consultant and as an equity analyst at Mirova,
