Skandia – Per Lindgren has been appointed as the new head of asset management at Skandia, replacing Lars-Göran Orrevall, on 1 June – Orrevall’s chosen retirement date.
Lindgren’s most recent job was group manager of trustee selection at the Swedish financial company, and he has a long background within the Skandia group, having worked with the life portfolio for almost 25 years, the firm said.
MAPFRE – The Spanish insurer has appointed Juan Bernal as group chief investment officer, with effect from 1 May.
Bernal, who has more than 25 years of experience in financial markets, has headed up asset management, private banking and personal banking in several financial institutions in Spain.Most recently, he held the position of general manager of CaixaBank Asset Management, among other roles.
Since 2019, he has served as chair of SpainNAB, the leading impact investment association in Spain, and is also a member of the Global Steering Group for Impact Investing (GSG).
ABP – Roelie van Wijk has joined the board of the Netherlands’ civil service scheme ABP as a non-executive director representing the employers.
Until her retirement from executive roles in 2020 Van Wijk, who is also a non-executive trustee at Brunel Pension Partnership, served as the CEO of pension asset manager TKP Investments for 12 years.
She also worked in senior management roles for Philips Pensioenfonds and PGGM, among others. Between 2018 and 2020, she served as president of Dufas, the Dutch Fund & Asset Management Association.
Cardano – For the new role of head of local government pension scheme (LGPS) relationships, the investment management and advisory company has appointed Guinevere Taylor, who has spent the last 10 years working with the LGPS.
Her former experience includes LGPS-related positions with RBC BlueBay Asset Management and Legal & General Investment Management as well as an ambassador for the Diversity Project.
Morningstar – Monika Calay will transition from her former position as director of passive strategies research to a newly-created role as director of UK management research.
Calay joined Morningstar in 2015, moving to Vanguard in 2018 and returning to Morningstar in 2020 as director of research. Her previous roles were at Bloomberg and Morgan Stanley.
Independent Governance Group (IGG) – Priti Ruparelia has been appointed as head of defined contribution (DC) for the UK provider of professional pensions trusteeship and governance services.
Ruparelia, who joined IGG in September 2023, assumes the position following Dianne Day’s departure to Australia where Day will continue her career in governance.
Ruparelia previously led Legal & General’s DC relationship teams. Her more than 25 years of experience have overseen setups of new DC pension schemes and the transition of trust schemes to master trust arrangements.
Nuveen – The firm is expanding its energy infrastructure credit business by appointing three managing directors, an associate and an analyst, in direct response to growing demand for private debt and structured equity solutions to companies transitioning to a low carbon economy.
LenaDoan joins as a managing director from HPS Investment Partners. She has significant experience investing across capital structures, managing companies and trading energy commodities.
Jeff Hostettler, managing director, has more than 15 years of investment experience in private credit and structured equity transactions. He also joins from HPS Investment Partners.
Eliot Javanmardi, the third hired managing director, brings nearly two decades of experience as an investment professional and energy industry operator. He held a similar role at HPS Investment Partners.
Associate Malcolm Bean gained previous experience in the energy trading space through quantitative analyst roles at Morgan Stanley, Lacima Group and Twin Eagle, where he focused on risk analytics.
AnalystLuke Schaefer previously supported Koch Industries’ commodity production and trading business through financial and commercial analysis.
PGIM - Prudential Financial’s asset management branch has announced its planned expansion into the Middle East via the appointment of Mohammed Abdulmalek as senior advisor and chair of PGIM’s Middle East council. Following regulatory permissions, Abdulmalek will become head of the Middle East and lead the advisory committee on the expansion initiative.
Abdulmalek most recently ran his own regional, private advisory practice, and he has 30 years of experience across senior management positions at JP Morgan Chase, UBS Asset Management, and Deutsche Bank Asset Management.
Isio – The UK pensions consulting firm has welcomed Matthew Cooper as a director in the covenant solutions team.
Cooper joins Isio’s Edinburgh office and will lead covenant advisory services with Paul Geeson, partner at Isio. Cooper will join an existing team of expert covenant and transactions advisers, who advise sponsors and trustees on covenant strength and the factors that impact it.
Cooper joins with extensive restructuring and covenant experience, having previously lead PwC’s pension and employer covenant and restructuring arm in Scotland.
XPS Pensions Group – Neil Maines joined XPS as a senior consultant in the investment team from Jana Investment Advisers based in Sydney, Australia.
He has over 13 years of experience advising clients with defined benefit (DB) and DC pension schemes, and he brings insight into XPS’s DC business from his experience working with Australian super funds.
Mediolanum International Funds – Simona Merzagora has been appointed as the German market’s senior business advisor for the European asset management platform where she will work closely with chief business officer Luca Matassino.
Merzagora will strengthen Mediolanum’s brand in Germany, which represents a promising market for the company. She has held positions at Goldman Sachs Asset Management and NN Investment Partners with a focus on sustainable investing and strategic business development over her more than 25 years of experience.
