Dutch healthcare scheme PFZW has been hit by a large data leak at the same software supplier of a market research firm that was responsible for a data breach reported by pension scheme PME last week.
Personal data of some 95,000 PFZW members were compromised in the data breach. PFZW, which first learnt of the possible data breach on 30 March, could however still not say with certainty that the data in question were actually leaked.
The data that may be leaked include the email addresses, last names, age and sex of all the members concerned. These data had been provided to a market research firm to conduct two surveys about the satisfaction of members with PFZW’s in-house magazines.
Members affected by the data breach were notified by email on 4 April. PFZW also warned them against phishing messages and suspicious phone calls, even though phone numbers were not leaked.
“Hackers may be able to find phone numbers too if they have last names and email addresses,” a PFZW spokesperson told IPE.
