GLOBAL - Northern Trust Global Investments has named Steven Schoenfeld to the new role of chief investment officer of Global Quantitative Management.

He was formerly chief investment strategist at Northern Trust.

His responsibilities will include investment performance across Northern Trust's index, enhanced and quantitative active products, and leadership and oversight of the quantitative investment process.

He will report to Michael Vardas, head of Global Quantitative Management, and Orie Dudley, NTGI's global CIO.

"Steven Schoenfeld has been a dynamic leader of our quantitative investment team as it forges new strategies for domestic and international markets, and his new title and duties recognize that leadership", said NTGI president Terry Toth.
 
Before joining Northern Trust in 2004, Schoenfeld had started two companies in the index/quantitative sector and was a managing director at Barclays Global Investors.
 
Global Quantitative Management, developing benchmark and investment solutions for Northern Trust's worldwide client base, currently has $214bn (€168bn) in assets under management.

It has a staff of 55 investment professionals with offices in New York, Chicago, London and Tokyo.
 
Meanwhile James Upton joins Northern Trust's New York office as senior investment strategist. He was formerly at Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse.
