EUROPE – Putnam Investments has hired Maria Garcia Lomas from J P Morgan for its European corporate bond research team.

Putnam said that Garcia Lomas would be a vice president of high-grade research at its London office.

“Maria's hiring is a significant development for Putnam in Europe as it represents the first step in the firm's strategy of building local experience and capability in European high grade corporate research,” the firm said in a statement.

“This capability will greatly enhance and deepen the firm's presence in the European corporate fixed income asset class as part of a broad effort to expand overall capabilities in global fixed income bond management.”

She will mostly work with the firm’s Boston-based high-grade research team. She would also work with its European high-yield team, headed by Anton Simon.

Putnam, part of the Marsh & McLennan group which includes pension-consulting firm Mercer, has more than 12 billion dollars under management.
