UK – The UK government has named a trade union official and an academic as members of a commission investigating pensions policy.
Jeannie Drake, deputy general secretary of the Communications Workers Union, and Professor John Hills, director of the ESRC research centre for social exclusion at the London School of Economics, will join the chairman of the commission, Adair Turner.
Turner, who is also vice chairman of Merrill Lynch Holdings Ltd., was named as the head of the new pensions commission when the UK’s “Green Paper” on pension reform was released on December 17.
Drake is also a commissioner of the Equal Opportunities Commission as well as being a trustee of the 1.16 billion euro Alliance and Leicester/Girobank Pension Fund.
Professor Hills’ research interests include social exclusion, welfare state, social security and income distribution. 2002
