EUROPE - Senior investment consultant Paul Trickett is to take over as European head of investment consulting at Watson Wyatt from Kevin Carter, who will retire.

"Kevin Carter is to retire from Watson Wyatt later this year and will be replaced by Paul Trickett as European head of investment consulting," the firm said.

"Nick Watts, the former European head of investment consulting, will also retire from the firm towards the end of 2006."

Trickett joined Watson Wyatt in January 1998, after some 20 years with British Coal, latterly as chief executive of the coal industry pension schemes.

"Paul Trickett has built an outstanding reputation with clients and colleagues alike over his eight years at Watson Wyatt, and he is an excellent choice to lead our Investment Practice going forward," said Babloo Ramamurthy, European Region Manager for Watson Wyatt, in a statement.

"Nick and Kevin have made a tremendous contribution to establishing Watson Wyatt as the pre-eminent investment consultancy in the UK and European market place."

"Under Paul's leadership our European practice has a very exciting future, building on the excellent position we are in today," added global investment consulting head Roger Urwin.

Trickett graduated from Manchester University in 1979 with a degree in Politics and Modern History. He completed an MBA at Henley Management College in 1992 and attended the International Executive Programme at IMD, Lausanne in 1993.

Watson said Carter and Watts would spend their remaining time at Watson Wyatt handing over client responsibilities.

Elsewhere, rival Lane Clark & Peacock has appointed Jerome Melcer as a senior consultant. He joins from BDO Stoy Hayward.
