NETHERLANDS – Former Watson Wyatt consultant Jan Hoogeveen has been appointed principal at Mercer's retirement and international practice in Amstelveen.

He will be responsible for International Financial Reporting Standards, mergers & acquisitions and rewards policy, a statement said. He said: “People make a company into what it is. The employer can influence their behaviour by providing the right incentives.”

Hoogeveen was previously employed as a benefits and international consultant with Watson Wyatt in the Netherlands and the US, Mercer said. Mercer has almost 400 staff in the Netherlands, at Amstelveen, Rotterdam and Velp.

Meanwhile, Mercer has appointed Steven Fein to the new role of head of HR technology and delivery. He was formerly at Towers Perrin, the firm said.

Elsewhere, a former Mercer staffer has joined rival firm Hymans Robertson in the UK. Hymans said 16-year Mercer veteran Rob Harper has been appointed partner and senior actuary to head its Birmingham office.

“Rob’s appointment reflects the firm’s commitment to growing our business in Birmingham and the Midlands,” said senior partner Ronnie Bowie. “He also represents a further strengthening of our senior resources across our consultancy and actuarial practices.”
