Universities Superannuation Scheme – Mel Duffield has been appointed to a newly created role in the policy and external affairs team. She will join the trustee company in February to take up the position of head of product strategy and liaison.
State Street Global Advisors – Rory Tobin has been appointed to the newly created role of head of European distribution. He joins from Barclays Wealth & Investment Management, where he was chief executive at Barclays Asset Management and global head of the investments and solutions group. Before then, he worked at BlackRock, where he was head of international iShares. He started at BlackRock as head of the global index and markets group, later becoming chief executive at iShares EMEA and co-chief executive at Global iShares. Tobin has also worked at JPMorgan as global co-head of European cash and equity products, and at Goldman Sachs as head of US equities for the EMEA.
MSCI – Laurent Seyer has been appointed managing director and global head of client coverage. He joins from AXA Investment Managers in Paris, where he was global head of the client group. Before then, he spent 24 years at Société Générale, where he held a variety of senior roles in equity derivatives and structured product sales, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and corporate development and business strategy, culminating in his role as chief executive at Lyxor Asset Management from 2006 to 2012.
Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan – Jo Taylor has been appointed managing director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa and head of the London office. In his new role, he retains primary responsibility for Ontario’s private capital and private equity investments in the region while assuming oversight for opportunity origination, analysis, value creation and execution of investment activities across asset classes. Ontario will be opening an expanded London office at Portman Square in 2015 to accommodate a larger, multi-asset-class team.
Hermes Investment Management – Oliver Leyland has been appointed head of Latin America and senior analyst. He joins from Mirae Asset Global Investments, where he was a senior equity analyst. Before then, he worked at Citi in London in a similar role.
Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management – Roger Bootz has been appointed head of public distribution of passive investment products for the EMEA region. He will primarily handle distribution of db X-trackers ETFs via asset managers, direct banks, financial advisers and intermediary pools. He joins from UBS, where he was formerly head of ETF Capital Markets Europe.
Burges Salmon – The UK law firm has made four appointments to its pensions team, with Crispin Freeman, Charlotte Osmond, Amy Davies and Stacey Yon joining the practice. Freeman joins as a senior associate from Wragge Lawrence Graham & Co, while Osmond trained at Linklaters and joins as a newly qualified solicitor. Davies and Yon have qualified into the team having completed their training contracts.
Spence and Partners – The UK pensions actuaries and administration specialist has appointed Richard Smith as scheme actuary. Prior to joining Spence, he held senior posts at Aon Hewitt and Towers Perrin.
Candriam Investors Group – Caroline Chartier has been appointed head of corporate communications. She began her career at Brunswick Group and went on to join Credit Suisse Asset Management as vice-president of Global Corporate Communications and Media Relations. In 2003, she founded Ermis Financial Communications, a boutique agency.
