Peter Walker has been appointed to the newly created role of chief operating officer at the Pension Protection Fund (PPF). He had joined the UK pensions lifeboat last year as interim COO and his position has now been made permanent. The PPF also announced the resignation of its director of compensation, Alan Duncan as his contract is ending next week.

Jean-Marie Barthel, one of the architects of the European Fund Administration (EFA), has left as chairman of the board. He held that position since 1998, two years after the organisation's creation. He will be succeeded by Rafik Fisher, head of global investor services at Kredietbank Luxembourg and former chairman of Luxembourg's investment fund association, ALFI.

Crédit Agricole Asset Management (CAAM) named Yves Casa as new head of Forex Trading.  Casa was most recently proprietary trader on the forex desk of the Calyon bank. At CAAM he is replacing Nicolas Boitout, who left last year.
 
Credit Suisse Asset Management has found a new team inhouse to lead its UK multi-manager business: Graham Duce, previously responsible for developing multi asset class solutions in Credit Suisse's UK private banking operations. He is joined by Rob Bowie, formerly of Artemis' multi-manager business in the UK, which was acquired by CS in 2005.

Principal Global Investors wants to push its pan-European and UK fixed income capability with the hire of David Buckle as European head of fixed income. He joins from Merrill Lynch Investment Managers where he was a senior fund manager in the fixed income department.

Marcus Lunn was named as global resources specialist at First State Investments - the company which Charlie Metcalfe, former deputy chief executive at Hermes Pensions Management, joined in November. He joins from Morgan Stanley Investment Management, where he was global materials analyst and portfolio manager.

Aberdeen Asset Management has appointed Peter Becker, Donald Amstad and Kate Hathirat within its fixed income teams. Becker, based in London, will strengthen the European fixed income team. Amstad will be based in Singapore where he will be joined by Hathirat.
