GLOBAL - USS, Mn Services, F&C, AllenbridgeEpic, Bluefin, SWIP, Sciens, Lombard Odier, Amundi
Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) - The second-largest pension fund in the UK has made a number of additions to its alternative assets team. Gavin Merchant has joined as senior investment manager within private markets, focusing on direct infrastructure. He joins from Equitix, where he was a director. Tahir Bhimji, Teia Merring and Sanjeev Phakey have joined as analysts for private markets covering investments in private equity, timberland and infrastructure. Bhimji joins from Lloyds Banking Group, Merring from Goldman Sachs International and Phakey from Spayne Lindsay & Co.
Mn Services - The fiduciary manager is continuing its expansion in the UK with the appointments of Jeff Neate, Marcelo Dellavedova and Chun-Kong Lui. Neate has been appointed senior account manager, joining from P-Solve Asset Solutions, where he was head of strategic consulting. Dellavedova joins from Northern Trust, taking on the role of business development manager. Lui has been appointed risk and operations manager and will relocate from Mn Services' head office, where he has spent more than three years as a senior performance analyst.
F&C Investments - Silvia Graemiger Theler has been appointed to lead institutional distribution in Switzerland and Austria. She joins from Falcon Private Bank, where she worked as client director for Swiss institutional clients. She started her career at UBS and has worked as a client director for Partners Group, Clariden Leu and Julius Baer.
AllenbridgeEpicInvestment Advisers - The UK pension fund adviser has hired Ray Maxwell as a private equity and infrastructure sector specialist. He is founder and currently a director at Acrostic, a boutique advisory firm. He is also chairman at Core VCT IV, which provides mezzanine finance to UK-based SMEs, and of PEFOX, a derivatives exchange for private equity funds.
Bluefin - Jim Boyle has been appointed to the newly created role of chief actuary, while Julie Stothard has been appointed head of actuarial practice. Both were recruited internally - Boyle has been with the firm for 10 years, while Stothard joined in 2010 from Towers Watson.
Scottish Widows Investment Partnership (SWIP) - Andrew Paisley has joined SWIP's UK equities team as investment director. He joins from Kempen, where for five years he was senior investment manager. Before then, he spent seven years at Edinburgh Fund Managers (subsequently Aberdeen Asset Management). He will be involved in the management of SWIP's UK smaller companies mandates.
Sciens - Sciens Fund of Funds Management Holdings, part of the Sciens Capital Management Group and provider of single- and multi-strategy funds of funds and managed account services, has appointed Stefan Mülheim as senior managing director, responsible for institutional business development in German-speaking Europe. He joins from Bridge Asset Management in London, where he was head of marketing.
Lombard Odier Investment Managers - Philip Chew has been appointed head of risk, operations and IT. He joins from BlackRock, where he led the building of risk reporting, research and portfolio management systems for more than 14 years. For the last five years, was managing director at BlackRock Solutions.
Amundi - Jason Josefs has been appointed senior portfolio manager for global equities in London, where he will co-manage the active global thematic equity fund. He joins from Aviva Investors, where he managed the global equity and multi-asset fund book of business. He started at Amundi on 5 September.
