Pension Protection Fund – Barry Kenneth has been appointed CIO to oversee the UK lifeboat scheme's £13bn (€15bn) investment portfolio. He joins from Morgan Stanley, where he was a managing director and head of UK fixed income institutional and pensions coverage. Before then, he worked for Royal Bank of Scotland, advising on interest rate derivatives. Kenneth is expected to join the PPF in June.
UK Pensions Regulator (TPR) – Andrew Warwick-Thompson has been appointed executive director for defined contribution, governance and administration with effect from April 2013. He joins from Aon Hewitt, where he was a partner in the international retirement and investment practice and responsible for global DC and investment solutions. He has more than 25 years' experience in the financial services industry, spanning pensions, insurance and asset management.
Coal Pension Trustees – Jonathan Abrahams, formerly a senior portfolio analyst at Aviva Investors, has joined the in-house management team for the UK's coal industry pension funds as head of portfolio construction. Abrahams, who previously worked within Aviva Investor's multi-asset fund business, has also worked at Norwich Union Investment Management. He began working at Coal earlier this year and arrives after Bill Dinning's appointment as head of investment strategy.
Länsförsäkringar – The Swedish life and pension insurance provider has appointed Anna Öster as chief economist. She will be responsible for the economics department and be closely involved with company's investment process. Öster currently works at Nykredit, a Danish bank, as a fixed income strategist. She will join Länsförsäkringar during the summer. Cecilia Ardström, head of asset management at Länsförsäkringar, said Öster's background had the market, economic and political experience the company was looking for.
Swiss Bankers Association – Peter Grünblatt has been appointed head of the association's Asset Management Initiative. Grünblatt held management positions within the Credit Suisse Group from 2001 at its subsidiaries Bank Leu and later Clariden Leu. At Bank Leu, he oversaw the investment fund business until the end of 2006, and from 2007 he was primarily responsible for the strategic focus of the products a services division at Clariden Leu as the head of business development.
Aon Hewitt – Fred Marchlewski is to replace Olaf Petersen as co-head of the German business, acting alongside Andy Cox. Marchlewski, who joins from Accenture, will take over from Petersen once he retires in July. Georg Thurnes will remain as the company's chief actuary, assuming responsibility for its entire German retirement business.
Threadneedle Investments – Abhishek Srivastav has been appointed institutional business director. He joins from Deutsche Asset Management, where he was part of the UK institutional team. Before then, he was a management consultant at Accenture and completed an MBA at London Business School.
Baring Asset Management (Barings) – Cora Gibbons has been appointed head of product and fund development. She joins from Natixis Global Asset Management, where she was head of the international product group.
AJ Bell – Rebecca Brennan has been appointed business development manager for Scotland and Northern Ireland.
