UK - Paul Kelly, who heads up the £2.5bn (E3.6bn) pension fund at Vodafone, is leaving the telecommunications giant to join global human resources consultancy Towers Perrin.

As global director of pensions, Kelly was responsible for all the retirement plans within Vodafone, which has 70,000 workers in 17 countries.

Towers Perrin said Kelly would be based in London, where he will be working on its global consulting group. Kelly’s arrival comes shortly after Towers announced three other new additions to its London team earlier this week.

Nigel Bateman, head of Towers’ European consulting arm, said: “We are delighted that Paul is joining the team. Paul’s experience of both managing pensions from a corporate perspective and consulting to major global clients will bring some interesting insights to our clients, as well as to the Global Consulting Group team.”

Before joining Vodafone in 2002, Kelly was a worldwide partner in the international practice at consultant group Mercers, doing consulting stints in Brussels, Dublin, London and Paris.

Kelly said he was “looking forward” to working at Towers Perrin’s global consulting group “at an exciting time for the firm”. He added: “There has been a marked increase in the development of global corporate governance processes at multinationals and Towers Perrin is at the forefront of helping companies understand and manage their pension and benefit programmes around the world.”

Kelly brings a wealth of experience to the role. He is a fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries and a senior examiner with the International Employee Benefits Association. He also sits on the international pensions committee of the Faculty and Institute of Actuaries
